Walk In The Light

Truth is far more than facts. It’s not just something we act upon. It acts upon us. We can’t change the truth, but the truth can change us.

So I was pondering 2 Corinthians 10:5- Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

I’m not the biggest fan for the Mesaage Bible but understanding that this verse is as much a familiar scripture to fight in warfare we forget that there is warfare that tradition, and man made governances has caused people to be bound and in captivity.

The Message Bible Version states it this way: The world is unprincipled. It’s dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn’t fight fair. But we don’t live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity.

Truth is reality. It’s the way things really are. What seems to be and what really is are often not the same. To believe what isn’t true, a perception, a concept, rules or governance is to be blind.

As followers of Christ, we are to walk in the truth (3 John 1:3), love the truth, and believe the truth (2 Thessalonians 2:10-12). We’re to speak the truth “in love” (Ephesians 4:32). Truth is far more than a moral guide. Jesus declared, “I am the way, the TRUTH and the life; no man comes to the Father but by Me” (John 14:6). He didn’t say He would show the truth or teach the truth or model the truth. He is the TRUTH, Truth personified. He is the source of all truth, the embodiment of truth and therefore the reference point for evaluating all truth-claims. If we truly studied the TRUTH without laws or religion that bind us to a particular belief and structure we would see the TRUTH differently and in a pure form.

The unfortunate thing is we get broken from our freedom to conform to a particular belief that says what is acceptable by God. The freedom that some experience makes the majority of the bound uncomfortable. The free are labeled as rebellious, out of order, radical and weird. We have found a way to take freedom and tie it up and hold it hostage. We conform our free thinking to be bound so that we fit in and are not left out. We are told that our free thinking is rebellious and unbiblical.

Jesus said “If the Son therefore shall MAKE you Free, ye shall be free indeed. So we push law, mans expectation, and twist truth with tradition only to enslave ourselves again. So, realistically relevant can’t look like tradition. Any similarity will be a mimic or copy cat. The world we live in today is no longer traditional. If the language used or the delivery of the message does not meet people where they are it is not relevant. We quote the parables that Jesus used and we forget he spoke to them in terms of the culture they were apart of to reach them. It always makes me scratch my head and raise an eyebrow that we expect perfection from the people of God.

We are expecting people to live under the law when the law that we are all under is Grace. We are comfortable seeing people made up covering their flaws yet, they are still hurting and bound. It is more suitable for us to look like a part than to walk in TRUTH. This belief that makes us feel like there is something in man to achieve. When in actuality, we should be chasing after God and His approval and His righteousness not the self righteousness of man.

We ascribe to a belief that is not prescribed by God but is primarily controlled and ordained by man. If we are not to be conformed to this world we have to look at it as more than moral sin and separation as well as conformity to a limited God. We sin by exalting man, law and governance over Jesus and the TRUTH.

To be transformed by the renewing of our mind we will have to put some traditions, some limitations, some labels, some approaches out of the way we respond.

We limit His message by trying to take a message that doesn’t contextually and culturally fit for the people, the time or the region. We try to make it a one size fit all. I was reminded of the low places Jesus went and that he wasn’t dressed to the nine to get to them. That he ministered to the broken, unchurched, and the common. Jesus was untraditional and was able to speak to people on every level and he was able to meet them where they were. Walk in the Light!

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of TRUTH. Concentrate on doing your best for God, work you won’t be ashamed of, laying out the TRUTH plain and simple. Stay clear of pious talk that is only talk.

John 8:32 (KJV) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall MAKE you free.
